Franco Armani is an Argentine football goalkeeper who currently plays for Argentina’s national team and Primera Division club side River Plate.

Franco was born on October 16, 1986, in Casilda, Santa Fe, Argentina, where he was also raised. Franco was born to Analia Rimoldi (mother) and Franco holds an Argentine nationality and belongs to the white ethnicity. Details about his father and siblings remain obscure.

Franco Armani: Career – Domestic and International

From a young age, his passion for football was lucid, he made his way through the Estudiantes Youth System. Going further, he began his career as a professional with the Argentine Sports Club Ferro Carrol Oeste.

From 2006 to 2008, he busied himself with the team while making 45 appearances. Following that, he moved to Deportiro Merlo where he spent two years, hence appearing in 39 games.

In 2010, he took a big step by moving to Colombia to play for the Colombian professional football team, Atletico National. He proceeded to spend 8 years in Medellin and became the most decorated player the team ever had with 6 Categories Primers A titles as well as Copa Colombia, 2 Superliga Colombia, and a Recopa Sudamericana.

He made a total of 135 appearances for the club in the domestic league.

On 14th March, Franco got the award of the person of the match within the club’s 2–0 victory against Boca Juniors for the 2017 Supercopa Argentina.

After moving back, he appeared in more than 40 domestic league games and has won the Supercopa Argentina with the team in 2017 followed by the Copa Libertadores.

In June 2018, Armani was named in Argentina’s 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia by manager Jorge Sampaoli. Following that, On 26 June, he made his international debut starting in place of Willy Caballero for Argentina’s final group match against Nigeria; Argentina advanced to the second round as group runners-up following a 2–1 victory. On 30 June, he started in the Round of 16 matches against France, which saw Argentina eliminated from the tournament after a 4–3 defeat.

On October 8, 2018, it was reported by “Outlook”, based on information from IANS that the goalkeeper injured himself during the second half of River Plate’s 3-1 victory on the day before over fourth-division club Sarmiento de Resistencia in the quarter-finals of the Copa Argentina.

The shot-stopper pulled a muscle in his right leg and had to miss two upcoming Argentine national team friendlies between Iraq and Brazil that month in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the medical staff of his football club said.

He was replaced by Guido Herrera, a player for another Argentine first-division team, Talleres de Cordoba, the South American nation’s football federation said, reports Efe.
